Scootering up Bokor Mountain

As I mentioned in my earlier post about Kampot, there’s a national park just a few kilometres from the town, Bokor National Park.  Within this park is Bokor Mountain, which offers a roughly 38km ride up twisting and turning paved road, flashing views of the towns below as you climb.  Once at the top, you’ll find an old French casino/hotel, which was abandoned while being finished in the 1920’s.  It was later inhabited by the Khmer Rouge, only to be again abandoned in the 1990’s.

From the casino/hotel you also happen to get an absolutely breathtaking view of Kampot, Kep, the ocean, and islands both belonging to Vietnam and Cambodia.  Here are just a few photos of the beautiful day, though photos certainly don’t do it justice.

The front of the hotel.

The interior of the hotel.

Bray walking up the staircase.

The rear of the hotel. It opens up into a large grassy yard with a view of … everything.

And yep, it had to happen! Headstands on the balcony.

The breathtaking view one direction from the yard. The islands way off in the distance are Vietnamese.

And the view the other direction. These islands are Cambodian.

We noticed the bright orange first. After further inspection, we discovered these monks were having a photo-shoot on these rocks, with the hotel in the background.

In another area on the mountain was a waterfall. As it was a national holiday there were mostly locals here, which was great.

Me standing at the waterfall!
